The process

How it works

Step 1: See your GP

For bulk-billed therapy you need two things from your GP: a Mental Health Treatment Plan and a referral to a psychologist. Ask your usual practice, the one that provides most of your care or where you’re registered with MyMedicare. The appointment usually takes 20 to 30 minutes.

Already have a referral? It stays valid until its sessions are used. Send it through when you book.

The ADHD assessment can start without a referral. A referral only matters for bulk-billed therapy afterwards.

Step 2: Book a time

Book through the booking page. Sessions run Monday to Thursday evenings. You’ll receive a confirmation email with a video link, and a reminder the day before.

Step 3: Your session

Find a private, quiet spot. Click the link a few minutes early. It works in your browser, no download. The first session covers what brings you in, how the work will run, and confidentiality and its limits. Sessions are 50 minutes.

What you need

  • A device with a camera and microphone
  • A reliable internet connection
  • A private space where you won’t be interrupted
  • Headphones help with privacy

If the connection drops, the session continues by phone. You’re never charged for a session lost to technical failure on the practice side.

Confidentiality

What you discuss stays between you and your psychologist, with the standard exceptions: serious risk of harm, legal requirements, or information you ask to be shared, such as reports to your GP.
