The process
How it works
Step 1: Choose your pathway
Bulk-billed therapy (Mental Health Treatment Plan)
Book a longer GP appointment, often around 30-40 minutes but varying by practice, and request both the Mental Health Treatment Plan and an eligible referral. Ask your usual practice, the one that provides most of your care or where you’re registered with MyMedicare.
Already have a referral? It stays valid until its sessions are used. Your GP can send it through HealthLink secure messaging (EDI: ixencion). If you hold the documents, Ixencion will provide a private secure upload route during setup. Do not send referral documents by ordinary email.
Private therapy
Book directly. No referral is needed.
ADHD assessment
Book the free consult directly. An existing referral may still help care coordination.
Step 2: Book a time
Book through the booking page. Available times are shown in the live booking calendar when you book. You’ll receive a confirmation email with a video link, and a reminder the day before.
Step 3: Your session
Find a private, quiet spot. Click the link a few minutes early. It works in your browser, no download. The first session covers what brings you in, how the work will run, and confidentiality and its limits. Sessions are 50 minutes.
What you need
- A device with a camera and microphone
- A reliable internet connection
- A private space where you won’t be interrupted
- Headphones help with privacy
If the connection drops, the session continues by phone. You’re never charged for a session lost to technical failure on the practice side.
Confidentiality
What you discuss stays between you and your psychologist, with the standard exceptions: serious risk of harm, legal requirements, or information you ask to be shared, such as reports to your GP.
