Questions
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a referral?
Only for bulk-billed therapy. Private therapy and the ADHD assessment need no referral. Bulk billing needs two separate documents from your GP: a Mental Health Treatment Plan (the plan your GP writes for your care) and a referral (the letter that authorises a course of psychology sessions). An existing Mental Health Treatment Plan isn't the same as an eligible referral.
How do I send my referral?
Your GP can send it through HealthLink secure messaging (EDI: ixencion). If you hold the documents, Ixencion will provide a private secure upload route during setup. Do not send referral documents by ordinary email. Each referral is written for a course of treatment: Medicare covers an initial course of up to 6 individual sessions. Subsequent referrals cover the remaining services, up to 10 individual services per calendar year. Medicare doesn't always require a new referral addressed to a particular psychologist, but as an intake requirement Ixencion may ask for a signed referral addressed to Christopher.
Is telehealth as effective as in person?
Telehealth is one way psychological care can be provided. The same professional standards apply, but telehealth is not suitable for every person or presentation. Suitability, limitations and alternatives are discussed with you.
What does the assessment cost?
$360 total. That covers the assessment session(s), measures, feedback, and the written report. It's a private fee; Medicare doesn't cover standalone ADHD assessments.
